Two years old

Styleremains.org turns two years!

I can’t believe that I have actually been so busy that I forgot this sites birthday..

So here’s a late hip hip hurray for styleremains.org and all its readers! Despite having my mind occupied the last months whilst studying, studying and studying some more, I must say that I had styleremains.org in my mind all the time. And I am so thrilled to see that you people out there still visit this site – even though there are times when studying or travelling takes over and make it a bit empty for a few months…

I really dig you people.

Happy belated birthday!

Gracious as always

I can help but loving Rützou’s newest collection a/w 2011. There’s just this certain elegant and sophisticated aura connected to the outfits and to top if off it’s supported by the way the model’s hair and make-up has been done – seducing red lips and graceful hairstyling. Like the woman we all dream of being with inspiration from the always incredibly chic French ladies in Paris!

The colours are surprisingly light for an autumn collection, but it actually works really good and it only seems refreshing. That way the more dark hues like the soft black, shiny grey, dark green, and brown is being contributed perfectly and it makes the heavy materials like duchesse silk, thick cotton, and suede appear lighter. Bright blue, a golden tone, fierce red, and the most beautiful green colour stands out in contrast to the rest of the 70′s inspired colour scale and even though I have a lot of dark clothing at home (do I like black? Nay) these tones are simply too lovely to miss out on!

Susanne Rützou has chosen to keep the styling simple – not too many jewelleries and especially not when showing items such as the roundly shaped golden coat or the black shiny coat with long sleeves. This gives the clothing a unique opportunity to be in focus and speak for itself.

Some of the most gorgeous items are the long grey blazer and the jumpsuit that has been through a few changes since last season; the soft black colour has remained, but the legs are straight and the waist is higher.

The entire collection is thorough and beautifully made – which is kind of annoying since I want all the items to come live with me! Oh well, I might end up with a few items (or several) because I am simply in love!

Copenhagen Fashion Week

From tomorrow and a few days ahead Copenhagen is the place to be. It’s going down and it’s going to be wild on the way. So thank god for Internet because I’m in Aarhus and missing it all! Not that I would miss out on any of what I’m experiencing at this point; starting studying and all is the shit, but it’s going to be a bit different to watch it all from a distance this time.

Copenhagen Fashion Week starts tomorrow and as usually Rützou is having their show Wednesday at the City Hall. Their last collection was surprising and fresh and especially their unusual show gave them a lot of publicity – so I can’t wait to see how their fall/winter 2011 is going to turn out! I have a bit of an idea since I saw some drawings before I left them last autumn, but it’s a long road from sketches to the final product and I’m so excited to see it! So the challenge this time is not to make a time schedule that fits so you get to see all the shows, have the time to bike around Copenhagen in order to get there and STILL look fabulous arriving or crashing all the fab parties and get up early the next day STILL looking fabulous of course and not hangover at all, but to cover the entire fashion week not actually being there. I think I can handle it. And yes, I know; it is a hard knock life.

Here are a few pictures from last fashion week in August to get you started.

Vogue Paris’ new editor-in-chief

In only three days time a dramatic change will take place at the main office of Vogue Paris. As most people (of those interested in the fashion industry) has been aware of, the famous editor-in-cheif Carine Roitfeld announced her retreat from the magazine in December.

As the days went by people started discussing the inevitable question “who will succeed Carine?”. Seeing as Carine Roitfeld was the editor-in-cheif for a decade it’s hard not to use the phrase ‘Vogue Paris is Carine – Carine is Vogue Paris’. And who could replace someone like that?

Rumors started spreading – some more juicy than other – and not very long after Carine’s goodbye, it was on January 7th unveiled that former fashion director Emanuelle Alt would take over from Carine Roitfeld. She was clearly the natural runner-up and the favorite for the title as well if you’re counting numerous bloggers opinion.

So from february 1st the head of Vogue Paris will say Emanuelle Alt and my personal believe is that she will do great. Emanuelle Alt started her career being named fashion director at French Elle aged 20 and in 2000 she joined Vogue Paris and has since then worked closely with Carine Roitfeld – so I bet she learned a trick or two on how to run a business like that.

In her very first video interview since being offered the editor-in-chief position, Emanuelle Alt told Hilary Alexander from the Telegraph that she was of course very pleased with the offer, but also very honored. What changes we will see in the future magazines is hard to tell at this point, but Emanuelle expresses is this way: “It will be the same, but different.” Same same, but different as they say in Asia as well. That can’t be all bad. I know for sure that I’m looking forward to seeing how her very first issue will turn out – different or not that is.

A (very) late happy new year from styleremains.org

I know I’m about hm.. okay 27 days late, but happy new year!

I feel like I’ve been living in the stone age for the last month as I haven’t had the luxury of having internet. So what? some might say. Well yeah, it’s actually quite addictive once you get used to it. And no, it’s not the same as when I was traveling because out there you really don’t need the internet as all the everyday issues are far, far away. Ah. Do I miss it? Nah. How could I not.

Anyways, a few photos from my new years eve that included a whole lot of dancing, delicious food, and of course baileys – sorry, I mean champagne! Or both actually.

Hope you all had a blast and had some lovely 27 days since it actually took place!

Welcome back to snowy Denmark

You will always have someone telling you that it’s going to be hard for you when you go back home after you’ve been out travelling for a while. And you will never get just how hard before you actually go home and immediately regret the decision about ever returning to icy cold Denmark. No seriously; just exactly why have we chosen to live in a country as freezing as this??

My mind was set for the Asian sun and so was my backpack which I had stuffed with all sorts of goods from the Far East (the goods not including UGG boots or a giant winter jacket = cold cold me when stepping out in the early winter morning). Some would call it ‘fresh air’, I would call it f***ing freezing. I do apologise for the cursing, it won’t happen again.

Of course it doesn’t all come down to how the weather is like, but at this point it happens to be a big deal! I’m already looking forward to spring and I’ve only wandered around in the snow for two goddamn (sorry, it slipped) weeks!

Therefore I’ll dedicate this post to the pictures above; all of which I have taken when travelling Borneo – one of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever visited. I could spend hours looking through my photos, remembering and reminiscing, but I won’t bore you kids with my silly stories! Instead I’ll let the photos talk for themselves. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Oh and yeah alright; I promise that this will be the o n l y time I’ll ever put up a photo of a monkey on my site. Whatever. I think it’s cute.

The Chronicle

I am learning how to become a true Malaysian. First step: take it slow. You don’t have to hurry, even though you were supposed to meet at 8 am. It doesn’t matter, just take your time.

And that is exactly what I have been doing. Even though this is now old news; I mean it was relevant when I left Denmark, but come on – that is almost two months ago! However I feel like showing this to you guys, so hopefully some of you haven’t heard about it yet and otherwise I hope you can just enjoy it.

The Chronicle is a newspaper made by Rutzou (great, I cannot make the umloud on this keyboard).  Due to their 10 year anniversary this year – congrats you guys! – they decided to come up with a new way of showing the inspirational world of Rutzou. In this newspaper you will find a passageway to the mind of Susanne Rutzou and see how she gets inspired and by what. The pages are filled with photos of all kind; some of them with text explaining their purpose and some of them without.

Each page is meant to stand out for itself. This means that you can tear out a page and put it on your own mood board without ruining the newspaper in its totality. So in this way you can choose for yourself what pictures you feel inspired by and which you would rather keep gathered.

The newspaper contains much more than just inspirational pictures. You will amongst other find a brand new interview with Susanne Rutzou along with a piece on one of her favorite cafés in Paris. There is an article about two photographers that take the art of taking pictures to a whole new level – wait and see; I am sure you will be amazed as well! At last there is also an introduction to some new handpicked artists talking about talent and how it is shown in various ways. The Chronicle is filled with a lot of interesting readings!

It is not meant for the newspaper to be produced in thousands of copies, so it is only in selected stores that you can pick up a copy. The Chronicle will be published twice a year; around February and August, so be prepared for the next issue to come out: it is definitely a good read!

Knit is on my mind

Even though I almost start sweating just by the thought of long pants and knitted shirts, I simply have to show these campaign photos from Filipa K a/w 2010. Here at Borneo the weather is always hot and kind of sticky – or I feel that way at least – so I rarely put on my jeans at night time. When I finally do, it is not even that cold, but I am now used to sweat all day long, so when the evening comes I sometime start freezing. Oddly enough.

Oh well, enough about the very warm weather! These photos was sent to me right before I left for my Asian adventure and at that point I was actually looking forward to the fall and the clothing to wear when the summer took its last stroll.

Therefore I quickly fell in love with these minimalistic designs which I could easily imagine hanging in my own closet. I especially adore the knitted items that can easily lift up your outfit – the long dark grey knitted sweater could be used as either an oversized blouse over a pair of slim trousers or stand out as a dress with a pair of dark boots. Even though it would be a bit short perhaps then the knitted quality makes it very wearable.

The colours all work very well together and even though it is a simple colour palette, the different ranges of grey make it out for a perfect wardrobe that can be mixed with the soft white and the lovely purple tone easily.

However I will have to wait another two months before I will put on anything knitted! In the meantime I hope you guys can use this as an inspiration whilst I will figure out how to wear as few items as possible due to the extremely humid weather.

Boy, have I got news for you!

I have something to tell. And it is not the fact that it’s “raining men” – hopefully I won’t ever be giving that kind of news. Well back to the point; I have great news! First of all I have been accepted at the Danish School of Journalism, Journalisthøjskolen, in Aarhus where I will start February 2011 – yeey! I actually already found out in May, but somehow it hasn’t really occurred to me before now as everybody is starting on a new study and I am still sitting here with my computer on my own thinking “what am I doing” to myself.

Luckily it will soon be my turn to go to lectures, get homework, and sit up all night to finish that idiotic, stupid paperwork – and the best part of it is that I am so excited for all of it to begin! Please, please let me hear more about the grammar, I just can’t get enough!

Hereto I have something else to tell and this one probably concerns this site more than the first which will hopefully only improve my writing skills and make this site soo much better. No doubt it will. Anyways, before starting on my study I have decided to go travelling for three months to sniff around the world for a bit – I have travelled a great deal before, but mostly in Europe and the States so this time it will be the East; more specific South-East Asia. We are talking Borneo, Vietnam, Cambodia, and of course Thailand, the whole she-bang! Jealous? I don’t blame you.

This will of course mean that for the next three months some of the post will be more or less non-fashion related as I doubt I will see anything that could come near a high heel in the jungle. However I will hopefully have the possibility to somehow find a computer – with internet – so I can post some photos from my travels and keep you updated this way. It will not turn into a travel blog, don’t worry, but to be able to keep you satisfied as my reader and keep writing for my own good, I will simply extend my repertoire.

If you have any comments on this; whether you think it is a brilliant idea – and then I would love to hear from you – or you simply hate it well, please keep it to yourself. Joking. Please do comment no matter the reason!

And even though I would love to think so, I doubt I will look as tremendously casual and cool as the woman on the Richard Avedon photo above. Perhaps I could just take away her cigarette and stylish scarf and replace them with a head lamp and giant hiking boots. Then I think it could work. Well, we’ll see.

Anne Sofie Madsen showing in London

As a follow up to the interview I brought with designer Anne Sofie Madsen about a month ago due to the Copenhagen Fashion Week, here are some photos from last fashion week in London where she showed her autumn/winter 2010 collection.

I once again have to point out the fact that I absolutely adore her creations – I mean just look at the delicate nude dress with ruffles on the front on the top photo? I know I wouldn’t mind wearing it for my next red carpet event (yeah, right). Feel free to scroll down and read about Anne Sofie’s preparation for the show in London and get the story behind these photos.

So as I keep imagining how my famous life would be – huge villa in Hollywood, starring in the latest MTV show on how hard famous young people have it whilst driving around in my Chrysler – please just take a moment to read about this fascinating upcoming talent and get lost in the beauty of her craftsmanship. I swear you can end up spending hours staring at all the details of her designs. I never get tired of it.
